Background of the study:
Cassava processing industries have emerged as vital economic drivers in rural areas, particularly in regions where agriculture forms the economic backbone. In Obubra Local Government Area, Cross River State, the processing of cassava into various products has contributed significantly to rural livelihoods by generating employment, reducing post-harvest losses, and promoting food security (Okoro, 2023). These industries not only create direct economic benefits for farmers but also stimulate ancillary activities such as transportation, packaging, and marketing (Nwosu, 2024). Moreover, government and non-governmental organizations have increasingly recognized the potential of cassava processing as a tool for rural development, leading to initiatives that support capacity building and technology adoption (Ikechukwu, 2025). However, challenges such as inconsistent supply chains, inadequate infrastructure, and market volatility remain. This study evaluates the contributions of cassava processing industries, critically examining their impact on income generation, community development, and sustainable rural transformation (Okoro, 2023).
Statement of the problem:
Rural communities in Obubra face persistent challenges in maximizing the benefits of cassava processing due to infrastructural limitations and supply chain disruptions. These issues hinder the potential of cassava industries to provide stable income and drive rural development (Nwosu, 2024).
